1. Kate Messner
Kate Messner is an award-winning author whose books for kids have been New York Times Notable, Junior Library Guild, IndieBound, and Bank Street College of Education Best Books selections. The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z. was the winner of the 2010 E.B. White Read Aloud Award for Older Readers. Kate also spent fifteen years teaching middle school and earned National Board Certification in 2006. She lives on Lake Champlain with her family and loves spending time outside, whether it’s kayaking in the summer or skating on the frozen lake when the temperatures drop. Her latest books, All the Answers, was published January 27, 2015.
2. Paige Jaeger
Paige Jaeger is a librarian turned administrator, and recently retired from School Support Services for WSWHE BOCES. She has delivered PD to teachers and librarians around the United States. She writes frequently for many national magazines and journals, and blogs at librarydoor.blogspot.com. Her first book, Rx for the Common Core, was published by Libraries Unlimited, and two more titles, Think Tank Library: Brain-Based Learning Plans for New Standards, Grades K-5 and Think Tank Library: Brain-Based Learning Plans for New Standards, Grades 6-12, were published in December 2014 and January 2015.
3. Sara Kelly Johns
Sara Kelly Johns was a school librarian for 31 years and is currently an online Instructor for the School Library and Information Technologies program at Mansfield University. She is the Immediate Past President of NYLA and is a member of the ALA Executive Board. She has been a persistent activist for library advocacy for a long time and writes, speaks and consults on school library advocacy.
Sara will present "Flipping the Switch" for School Library Advocacy. Promotion and marketing of your school library program creates that core of advocates that we all need. Johns will take you through the steps of creating a marketing/communications plan that can make a difference for your support by students, teachers, staff, school board and community. It's all about attitude, leadership and preparation.
4. Derek LaLonde
Derek LaLonde works as a Model School Coordinator for the Mohawk RIC out of the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES region. He has been employed at the RIC for the six years, first starting on the technical side of the RIC and gradually making the transition over to the instructional team. Derek has a Masters in Teaching from SUNY Potsdam in Instructional Technology and some of the recent projects he has been involved in include online learning, video games in technology, and web page design.
Derek will present at two sessions. His presentations will be Google Apps for Beginners and Advanced Google Apps.
5. Tanya Roy
Tanya Roy is a Literacy Coach and Teaching Librarian for the South Lewis Central School District. Trained as a special education and elementary teacher, Tanya was trained in the Literacy Collaborative at Lesley University in best literacy practices UPK-8. Tanya attend NYS Common Core Trainings as part of her job as a common core instructional coach. She believes in the power of reading and strives to ensure authentic text interactions for all ages.
Tanya's session is entitled Using Authentic Texts for Authentic Purposes. By using non-fiction textual pairings and media resources, elementary & middle school students can learn how to dissect text for deeper understandings of, not only the content, but the genre itself. By using authentic texts; students can gain generative skills; applicable to any piece of text they might encounter.
6. Elizabeth Jurkiewicz
Elizabeth Jurkiewicz has been a library media specialist at South Lewis Central School District for the past six years, working with students in grades 5-12. She graduated from Syracuse’s iSchool in 2009 with a Master’s in Library Science. She continues to pursue learning and new learning experiences for students.
The presentation will feature a variety of web tools & apps and showcase ways boost student engagement in the library. These tools can be embedded into the library program and will foster inquiry, creativity, and build research skills among students. Students will become interactive leaders in their learning. From Haikudeck to Aurasma, among others, we will share some examples of how we are using these tools in the library.
7. Sue Kowalski
Sue Kowalski is the librarian at Pine Grove Middle School in the East Syracuse Minoa School District. She believes that all librarians must #LEADOUTLOUD to make an impact in their communities. Sue is actively involved in NYLA-SSL, NYLA currently serving as Advocacy Chair and Counselor at Large for those organizations.

Kelly Wilson is the Director of the St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System. She was a school librarian for 14 years with experience at all grade levels, most recently at Canton Central School. She has a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh, a Master’s in Library Science from the University at Albany and majored in Political Science and Industrial Labor Relations as an undergrad at SUNY Potsdam. She has served on the board of the New York Library Association’s Section of School Librarians and is in the incoming President-Elect of the New York State Educational Media Technology Association. She loves all things history from travelling to historic cities and sites, to watching marathons on the History Channel.

Susanne Ford-Croghan is the School Library System Coordinator for the CEWW BOCES. Prior to her current position, she was an itinerant librarian for CEWW BOCES, working in Elizabethtown-Lewis, Crown Point, and Keene Central Schools. Susanne received her MLS from SUNY Albany, and is currently pursuing her Educational Leadership Certificate through Niagara University. Susanne’s favorite things include her family, her animals, and her book collection.

Paul Doty is a Public Service Librarian at St. Lawrence University. Paul has a B.A. in English from Keene State College, an M.A. in English from the University of Maine, and an M.L.S. from SUNY Albany.
